Washington Monument Reopens
After a two-year restoration, the Washington Monument reopens to the public Monday. The monument is open to visitors from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Entry is controlled through timed-entry tickets. Free tickets will be distributed at the kiosk on the monument grounds (Metro: Smithsonian) at 15th entertainment and Madison Drive NW each entertainment beginning at 8:30. Digging Up the Past
Help archaeologists sift through three centuries of the past during the annual Tidewater Archaeology Dig, Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 to 4 in Historic St. Mary's entertainment, on entertainment 5 about 70 miles south of the Capital Beltway. Other activities include behind-the- scenes tours of the archaeology entertainment and tours of excavations, the Maryland Dove entertainment, the reconstructed State entertainment of 1676, a re- created 17th-century inn and a restored tobacco plantation. NSO in the Park
The National Symphony Orchestra presents two free concerts Friday and Saturday at 7:30 at Carter Barron Amphitheatre, 4850 Colorado Ave. NW (at 16th entertainment). Friday's concert is conducted by Anthony Aibel and features works by Bizet, Mozart, Vivaldi, Ravel, Mussorgsky, Brahms and Tchaikovsky. Saturday's performance, conducted by Thomas Wilkins, features works by Shostakovich, Dvorak and Richard Strauss. No tickets are required and seating is on a first-come basis.
